Take Steam Inhalation

Steam inhalation is one of the most effective remedies for winter cold attack, especially when you feel blocked head, stuffy nose, neck heaviness, sinus pressure, or tight chest.

Moist warm steam enters your nose and throat, loosens thick mucus, reduces swelling, and gives instant relief.

How Steam Works

  • The warm steam helps melt the cold mucus stuck in the nose, throat, and sinuses.
  • Reduces sinus pressure, preventing headaches.
  • Moisturizes dry nose and throat caused by winter air.
  • Helps stop coughing by soothing the windpipe.
  • Gives a warm feeling that removes “cold attack heaviness” from the head.

How to Do Steam Inhalation (Correct Method)

  1. Boil water in a pot or kettle.
  2. Pour the hot water into a wide bowl.
  3. Sit comfortably and place the bowl on a table.
  4. Cover your head with a towel to trap the steam.
  5. Inhale the steam slowly through nose and mouth for 8–10 minutes.
  6. Lift the towel occasionally if it feels too hot.
  7. After steam, sit for 5 minutes and avoid cold air.

What to Add in Steam (Optional, but Helpful)

You may add:

  • 2–3 drops eucalyptus oil (strong congestion relief)
  • Mint leaves (cooling + opens nose)
  • Ajwain (carom seeds) (excellent for cold attack)
  • Haldi (turmeric) pinch (anti-inflammatory)

Do NOT add too many things — 1 ingredient is enough.

Best Time for Steam

  • At night before sleeping (helps breathe better)
  • Early morning when cold heaviness is maximum
  • During headache due to sinus or cold wind
  • When nose feels blocked and breathing is difficult

Precautions

  • Keep face at a safe distance to avoid burning the skin.
  • Not recommended immediately after eating.
  • Do not use steam for more than 2–3 times a day.
  • People with asthma should use steam carefully.
