Glance and Google Cloud Partner for AI-Powered Smartphone Experiences
Glance, a consumer internet company, has partnered with Google Cloud to integrate generative AI (gen AI) into millions of Glance-enabled smartphones worldwide. This collaboration aims to enhance user experiences on smartphone lock screens and ambient TV screens by leveraging Google’s advanced AI models, including Gemini and Imagen.
One of the initial features resulting from this partnership is an immersive, AI-driven commerce experience. Users can upload a selfie or an image from their gallery, which the AI analyzes to infer their interests and preferences. The system then generates personalized images placing users in relevant contexts, transforming their lock screen wallpapers. This allows users to visualize themselves with various products and make real-time purchase decisions directly from their lock screens.
Glance plans to launch ‘Glance AI,’ a gen AI-powered platform designed to deliver immersive discovery experiences on both smartphone lock screens and TV ambient screens. This initiative aims to transform ordinary smartphones into AI-powered devices, redefining content consumption and e-commerce. The U.S. market will be the first to experience these advancements, with plans for further expansion.
Naveen Tewari, Founder & CEO of InMobi & Glance, stated that the partnership with Google Cloud is crucial for Glance’s mission to inspire users through AI-powered, discovery-led experiences. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added that generative AI technologies have the potential to transform experiences globally, with mobile phones being a key touchpoint. He emphasized that Glance can now harness Google Cloud’s cutting-edge gen AI technologies to develop groundbreaking applications across commerce, content, and more, unlocking new possibilities for customers.
Launched in 2019, Glance has been a pioneer in delivering AI-powered smart lock screen experiences, currently powering over 450 million Android-based smartphones worldwide. The company has an active user base exceeding 300 million across India, Indonesia, Japan, the United States, and other countries. All functions are customizable, opt-in, and do not access user data, maintaining user privacy. The platform relies on usage patterns to continually refine its recommendation engine and provide a best-in-class experience to consumers.
